\u201cSex and Politics\u201d is the theme of this year\u2019s BL Art Festival, traditionally held at the Incel Social and Cultural Center, located within the grounds of the former factory of the same name, a sad monument to socialist realism. By analyzing the manifestos of contemporary society and deconstructing and disuniting the fundamental influences on personal identity over which the individual has no control, everyday life remains difficult, arising from already established social rules and opening space for intense critical discourse.\n\nThrough various forms of expression, the artworks brought together in this year\u2019s BL Art Festival provoke the audience and invite them to think critically about the established beliefs and rules that shape the dynamics and consciousness of contemporary society. Focusing on questions of gender, sexuality, and identity, the artists illuminate how social constructs and political structures shape individual experience. The works the audience has the opportunity to encounter question established social norms and conventions, whether through an ironic approach, audience participation, or direct confrontation with taboo subjects. Through this approach, the artists challenge the status quo. And sex and politics have never been hotter.\n\nMen retain primary control over social, political, economic, and cultural institutions. This dominance is expressed through various social practices and customs, and is accompanied and perpetuated by corresponding social ideologies. Patriarchy remains a matter of honor and tradition, and any deviation is seen as a degradation of all those noble segments in a human being. And around him.\n\nWe clearly see an exploration of gender identity and discrimination in different cultural policies in the work \u201cIn the Veil of Bitter Speech\u201d by artist Ivana Ranisavljevi\u0107. Connecting past and present, she points to the continuity of problems and the generational trauma to which women are exposed in different societies and historical periods. Ivana Ranisavljevi\u0107 includes the audience in the traditional act of embroidering sentences that describe personal or others\u2019 experiences of violations of women\u2019s rights and freedoms. These sentences, embroidered on white cloth, symbolize the transformation of individual painful experiences into a collective cultural statement and an impulse for change.\n\nGender discrimination and the creation of personal identity are also addressed by artist Dunja \u010corlomanovi\u0107 in her installation \u201cNice Girls Don\u2019t Drive Trucks.\u201d She raises the question of gender discrimination, individuality, and the right to an authentic choice. Nice girls don\u2019t talk about their problems? The work uses the shapes and colors of traffic signs, which according to traffic rules are read as notices, warnings, and strict commands, thus reminding us of the problem of obligations, norms, and the ingrained view of the world in which a girl or a woman is expected to behave according to a pattern prescribed for generations. Patriarchal society is a limiting force not only toward girls and women, but toward the dynamics of society as a whole. Social rules, under the veil of moral principles, are placed on a pedestal above individual emotions and consciousness. Generational shame becomes a form of affirmation, one that is propagated in everything we can see, feel, and hear. We are ashamed of our parents, our teacher, that friend standing next to us. We are ashamed of the mistress. We love the lover. All the same, \u201cWhatever gets made will be shit\u201d!\n\nJana Jova\u0161evi\u0107 approaches the taboo relations of sexuality and shame through irony, exposing the audience as the creator of the artwork. Phallic forms have never been closer to us. Jana Jova\u0161evi\u0107 plays with the boundaries of individual shame and with how imposed social norms shape our sexuality. By performing a mental transfer, the work becomes a kind of psychological game, a means of examining and overcoming various personal inhibitions, emotional, erotic, or artistic. Through the intrusion of the personal and the collective unconscious, art becomes a place of liberation.\n\nThe influence of collective shame on individual identity is explored by the Association of the Young and Horny, made up of Teodora Arsi\u0107 and Vanja Ivanovi\u0107. We become witnesses to a ritual bathing that introduces us to a space that is spiritual, calm, and well-fed. Please, less disgust from the citizens. Strip completely, shame is a luxury, everyone should bathe because water is not expensive. The back must be washed well. Cleanliness is struggle, scrubbing is an obligation. The body seeks the drill because it is not an ordinary pear, the best bath is when a strong male hand washes you. In public bathhouses there is no embarrassment. Dresses and underwear are taken off for the purpose of caring for the body, the skin and all the organs of order are washed. The body cannot be separated from the eye, look both inward and outward, the wound is deep. Force, break, tear, splash, the trough is too tight, I\u2019ll be defiant. \u201cPathos\u201d explores the space within discomfort and exposure, the private ritual and the public performance, personal shame and the political act, placing them in mutual interaction. Shame arises from the provocation of power, which introduces a collective feeling of awe. We still do not know whom we fear! Ourselves? No, not ourselves. Television! And pornography!\n\n\u201cSlavic Submission,\u201d through a pornographic identity, places the audience in the role of the active executor of the performance, questioning the collective state of consciousness and that raw element within every individual identity. Testing the boundaries of endurance remains a lifelong question, shaping the impact of the social, political, and personal act on various psychological and physical manifestations. Power, control, and the limits of endurance? Luka Joksimovi\u0107 creates a place of introspection and reflection, where the boundaries between art and real life are blurred, opening space for a deeper understanding of human nature and social dynamics.\n\nAnd institutions? Institutions most of all! The status of the artist has been a question for decades. An imaginary question invented by the artists themselves. No one ever offered them anything, and yet they are always asking for something! Does art even exist? Ah, I know! Art is everything that happens at Kastel. It is so good that all the cultural workers gathered to pay for it. Let the people rejoice! Bread and love only, my dear ones.\n\nThe Radical Boyz (Danilo Bursa\u0107, Mateja Markovi\u0107, Aleksa Spasi\u0107) critically analyze the institutional and bureaucratic role and its influence on individual identity. Through the participatory performance \u201cDocuments,\u201d they intensively involve the audience, which becomes the bearer of artistic action simply by entering the space. The Radical Boyz raise questions about the very essence of art and the criteria that determine the role of the artist, or, closer still: who is actually an artist? At the same time, they expose the institutions that do or do not legalize artistic status. \u201cDocuments\u201d raise questions of authority, legitimation, and the evaluation of artistic activity.\n\nAnd how are we socially poisoned by pyralene? The Incel factory site carries with it the heavy history of industrial exploitation and environmental pollution. By transplanting plants, Nikola Tomi\u0107 creates a new context for remembering that space, transforming it from a symbol of degradation into a symbol of renewal. This action can also be seen as a critique of past and present socio-economic systems that led to the pollution and decay of such spaces. Society is a dynamic category and always finds a way to revitalize itself and survive. But what happens when society is poisoned by pyralene?\n\nAnd we can certainly feel politics. And sex? There is always too little sex.<\/p>
